A Spiritual Experience in Africa –  Multi-Media Presentation

Stephen Andersen took a leave of absence from the corporate world between 2005 and 2007 to volunteer in Mali, West Africa.  He supported the country’s micro-finance program, secured the country’s first commercial solar oven, started an aid program for people with disabilities, and began selling jewelry in the USA made from discarded farm animal bones in Africa’s second largest, slum.  Come hear Steve describe his work through stories and pictures and tell how this experience opened his heart and changed his spirit.  Kiberan jewelry will be for sale and proceeds will be split between the Boght Arts Center and the craftspeople of this African slum.

We are pleased to welcome back guitarist, Tom Rasely.  Here’s somefeedback from the last time he visited…”I was not at all prepared for the effect of Friday night’s Tom Rasely concert…The sound was so singular, so pure.  Was it that? Was it the intimacy of the space, the acoustics, the feelings of goodwill?  All of that, likely, but something more.  It was as if the music hovered for a moment before reaching my ears, and in that moment there was mystery.  All I know is, I told my friends about it afterwards and the best word I could come up with was holy. “  Tom’s been invited back to the White House twice.  We thought we should ask him back too.   www.rasely.com

Will Kaufman Concert
Woody Guthrie: Hard Times and Hard Travellin’

Wednesday, September 29, 7:30 PM

$12.00 General Admission
Woody Guthrie: Hard Times and Hard Travellin’ is a captivating "live documentary" that sets the songs of Woody Guthrie in the context of the American 1930s - the Dust Bowl, the Depression, the New Deal and the state of popular music itself. Such hard-hitting Guthrie songs as "Vigilante Man", "Pretty Boy Floyd" and "I Ain't Got No Home" are brought into conversation with other relevant songs - from Joe Hill's "The Preacher and the Slave" to "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?". Altogether the show highlights the blending of music and radical politics that marks Guthrie's most powerful work.

"No one can understand the American people without listening to Woody Guthrie. Will Kaufman's doing important work here." - Tom Paxton

"I thank Will Kaufman for introducing a new generation of Europeans to 'the other America'. It's a wonderful job he's doing." - Pete Seeger
